Fall 2008 Friar Reunion Weekend

UPDATE: Due to the early kick-off time (11:00am) of the Texas vs. Baylor game this Saturday, the cocktail reception will begin AFTER the game. The original time was set for 2-hours before kick-off but in order to accommodate those traveling to Austin that morning, the event will begin immediately following the game or at 3pm, whichever may come first.

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for you or for your guest(s). Please let us know if you need to modify your RSVP status due to the time change.

Friar Society Actives graciously invite all Friars to the 2008 Fall Reunion Weekend. They have requested that Friars mark their calendars for the weekend of November 8 and 9 to reunite with Friars both old and new.

This year the Friar Society has the distinct honor of hosting the Saturday Cocktail Reception with President Bill Powers of the University of Texas. As that day coincides with the Texas vs. Baylor home football game, the exact time has yet to be determined. However, the day’s festivities are set to begin approximately 2 hours before kickoff. This is an opportunity for all Friars to meet the new initiates and congratulate the recipients of the Tany Norwood and Distinguished Alumnus Awards. Friar Abbot Nicole Trinh would like to thank President Powers for his hospitality in sharing his beautiful office (MAI 400, UT Tower) with the cloister. Formal invitations will follow in the near future.

Meanwhile, the traditional Friar Breakfast will take place in the Maximilian Room of the Driskill Hotel (604 Brazos St.) at 9:00 AM the following morning, Sunday, November 9. As customary, the new initiates will deliver their speeches while all Friars dine on a delicious breakfast. A new Friar tradition will take place as the Friar members of silver (25 years) and gold (50 years) classes are recognized. An RSVP for both the cocktail and breakfast is much appreciated via email (netrinh@austin.utexas.edu) or the enclosed reply card by November 1.

The Friar Actives are enthusiastic about the upcoming celebration and strongly encourage all Friars to attend.
